HUNGRY EXPATS FAQS
General
How do I place an order?
Fill your basket with your favourite items – the shopping cart at the very top of the page will tell you the number of items and the value of the items in the shopping cart. It will also show you the weight of the basket. When you go to the checkout you can choose your delivery method and the postage costs will be calculated automatically based on the weight of your basket. We do not charge you by the box, but by the weight of your order. You do not need to buy more to fill a box. So just order what you need.
Please note orders can only be placed online, we are unable to take orders over the phone at present.
Will my confectionery items arrive as they left the UK?
So, we know a lot of you live in wonderfully hot places but unfortunately that means that if you are buying chocolate or sweets from us, it will be at your own risk as we cannot guarantee the conditions when they arrive.
All our shipments are sent via DHL and orders can be tracked on the tracking page of the DHL website. We recommend that you track your items to ensure you are available to receive them so you can unpack and get into a cool environment. Many customers have reported no problems with chocolate items being sent to countries such as Spain and Portugal with hot climates.
Do you sell alcoholic beverages?
We don’t offer alcohol at the moment but may do so at a later date – make sure you are signed up to receive updates and our newsletter, so you know when new product lines are added.
How do I sign up to receive updates?
To sign up to receive updates from us and be kept up to date on new products, discounts and sale items – just enter your email on the "Sign up for our Newsletter" section near the bottom of the home page. You will also be given the opportunity to register when you place your first order. This has the added benefit of enabling you to collect Hungry Expats Reward Points, and viewing past order details.
How do I update my details?
Once you have registered with our site, to update your contact details, login in via the home page and you will be able to view and amend your details.
What about best before dates on products?
Most of our items have a long shelf life but there are some which have a shorter best before date. These items are mostly from the bakery section with a typical shelf life of 3-4 days. Even though they have a shorter best before date, you will still be able to freeze these items when they arrive and enjoy them at your leisure. All our short shelf life items will have the following symbol.
The Food Standards Agency states that the “best before" date is about quality and not safety. The food will be safe to eat after this date but may not be at its best. Its flavour and texture might not be as good. The "best before" dates appear on a wide range of frozen, dried, tinned and other foods”.
We recommend that you select Express Shipping when ordering goods which would typically have a short shelf life.

Delivery and billing addresses – can they be different?
This is not a problem, we understand you might want to send favourite goodies or a Hungry Hamper to a loved one overseas, or get a package delivered to your work address. On checkout you will fill in your billing address and will then be given the opportunity to select a different delivery address.
I have ordered an item which is only 136g but when i add it to the shopping cart the weight says 0.4kg?
The weight stated on products is the weight of the goods inside. In the example shown below, the weight of the Horseradish Sauce is 136g, however this does not include the packaging. As this is packaged in a glass jar the actual total weight of the product is much greater. We also take into consideration additional packaging for shipping, allowing the glass jar to be wrapped in packaging material to ensure safe delivery.
In addition, items such as crisps and cereal, whilst the packaging weight is negligible and the weight of the produce is low, they tend to be very bulky. Shipping companies use volumetric weight in addition to actual weight to calculate shipping, with the heavier of the two being used for shipping. Therefore lighter, bulkier items are adjusted to reflect their volumetric weight.
The simplest way to image it is as follows. Imagine 10kg of bricks in a box and 10kg of feathers in a box. Both weigh the same, however the box containing the 10kg bag of feathers will be considerably larger than the box containing the 10kg of bricks.
Rest assured, we will always try to ensure you get the best value for shipping.
Can I freeze the products I purchase from you?
Yes, just check the guidelines for freezing items on the packaging.
How can I redeem reward points?
Reward points can be redeemed on future orders. As long as you have signed in, your rewards points total will be shown at the checkout page along with their monetary value. You will have the option to redeem all or a portion of them from your order. For further information please see our Hungry Expats Rewards page by clicking here.
